Troop 1214

River Hawk District Camporee – 5-7 April 2024

Earlier this month, the Troop participated in the River Hawk District Camporee at Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation, along with several other Troops from across the District.  This was the first camping trip for one of our new Scouts and what a great camping trip to go on!  The District ran an “open program” of several stations across Camp Saffran, enabling the Patrols to pick and choose which activities they participated in throughout the day.  This was also the last camping trip for a couple of our older Scouts that will age out in April & May, at least their last camping trip as a youth!

The Scouts were able to shoot rifles at the rifle range, climb the climbing tower, practice their “Robin Hood” archery skills at the archery range, attempt to catch a fish on the lake at the fishing station, throw tomahawks at the tomahawk range, and the ever popular shotgun shooting at the skeet range.  We participated in the evening campfire at the new campfire ring, where members of the Troop were called out after their elections to the Order of the Arrow, the first step towards induction into Scouts BSA’s National Honor Society.  We closed the camporee with a Scouts Own service before breaking camp and heading back home.  It was a fun weekend and definitely should be repeated next year!
