Each month, Troop 1214 focuses on a theme, from Scout Skills to a merit badge focused month to Summer Fun. These themes are planned out each year by the Scouts, though some key themes are repeated each year. Camping is one of those themes and we schedule the theme for the first month that we have our new Scouts that bridged over from Cub Scouts in the February/March timeframe. This way they are provided with the basic camping skills they will need on their first camping trip as Boy Scouts.
During the month of April, the older Scouts and Patrol leaders led the training for the younger Scouts and helped instruct them on those basic skills such as how to setup their tent, basic cooking skills including how to use our stoves or trail stoves, how to pack their backpack for camping, and what gear they will need. We emphasized the need to train together as a Patrol to ensure that when they go camping, they work together to accomplish their goals, advance, and have a good time in nature.
